Coming home.... that feeling immediately embraced us as soon as we entered this atmospheric Bergerie from the terrace - decorated by beautiful 200 year old lime trees. The use of beautiful materials, the very comfortable furnishings and the application of playful details in combination with the love that the owners have put into it makes it a harmonious whole. They have managed to preserve the authentic character of this former sheepfold (Bergerie) in a beautiful way, which makes this house a stylish and pleasant accommodation.
The house is located about 2 km outside the picturesque village of Tourtour, which is classified as one of the most beautiful villages in the south of France. Tourtour has a cosy village centre with several good restaurants (recommended La Table at 2 km walking distance), nice galleries and boutiques and almost every day there is a nice Provencal market to visit somewhere in the area. Water sports enthusiasts can indulge themselves at the beautiful Sainte Croix lake (30 km). Here you can rent sailboats, surfboards, pedal boats, canoes, etc. and you can also enjoy swimming and sunbathing on the various beaches on the lake. A day at the beach is also possible; the beautiful beaches at Fréjus can be reached within an hour's drive.
Directly on the 1.2 hectare site of the Bergerie borders a fantastic large nature reserve with many beautiful marked hiking trails. Really worth a visit! If you like walking you can also walk in the morning sun to the bakery for your fresh baguette. This 2 km is easy to walk as the road you are walking along is not a through road. For your fresh fruit you don't have to leave the garden at all; you will find berries, cherries, figs, apples, etc.
The swimming pool (12 x 5 m) is right next to the house and has an overflow. In the pool is a narrow, shallow basin where it is pleasant for children to paddle. The pool, with a spacious shallow area, has an unusual look because it is higher than the adjacent sun terrace with barbecue. From this sun terrace there is also a small fence, which closes off the access to the steps leading to the pool.
For children the garden is a relief; a lovely spacious lawn directly in view of the terrace, a rack with swings, a playhouse, a table tennis table and a table football game under a roof. On the east side of the grounds there is a small stream, but this is about 75 m from the Bergerie, so it is not directly within reach of children. Indoors there is also plenty of entertainment for the children; upstairs there is a large cupboard with games, toys, books, etc. Outside it is great and the same can be said of the interior. Upon entering the hall it is already clear that the authenticity of the building has been well preserved and the atmosphere of yesteryear is beautifully interwoven with the comfort of our time.
In the hall there is a guest toilet and to the left is the access to the living room, which again has an open connection to the living kitchen. The huge window from ridge to floor provides beautiful light in this room and from the sitting area you have a panoramic view of the garden and the valley. A lovely place to stay, partly due to the large fireplace and the atmosphere that the authentic walls give to the space.
We found the kitchen a real showpiece in this house; the ambiance you experience fits perfectly with the appearance the owners wanted to give it. In this part of the house, where the dining table is also located, you will undoubtedly spend a lot of time and pleasure. Above the counter top, 4 portholes have been created, which provide a playful incidence of light in the kitchen. At the same time you can watch the pool while cooking. The kitchen is of course equipped with all imaginable conveniences, such as a large gas cooker with oven and at the back of the kitchen there is a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer.
From the hall there is the eighteenth-century staircase to the first floor with 3 bedrooms and the bathroom. The upper floor has a playful layout and has been decorated and furnished with an eye for detail. The bathroom has 2 beautiful washbasins, designed by the owner himself, and you can enjoy a beautiful view while lying down in the bath. Another nice detail in the bathroom is the chute, allowing your dirty laundry to go directly where you want it (in the laundry basket near the washing machine downstairs!). In the bathroom there is also a separate shower and on this floor there is also a separate toilet (and bidet).
The first bedroom can be reached at the top left of the stairs via a space in between, where a wooden cot (with a good mattress) is waiting for you (you can of course place it elsewhere if you wish). In the spacious bedroom there are two box-spring beds which can also be made up as a double bed. There is also a spacious showerroom and a large wardrobe. The other 2 bedrooms are on the other side upstairs, but like the first bedroom they have a view of the garden. The first bedroom, with stone floor, has a single boxspring bed on both sides of the room. The room next door is wonderfully spacious, also has a beautiful stone floor and a large window. You will find a lovely double boxspring bed and there is plenty of cupboard space.
You will be welcomed by the friendly owners, who have a completely independent accommodation on the same grounds, which will not infringe your privacy. In fact, everyone experiences their presence as a plus. They are there when you need them, but they are anything but a burden to you during your well-deserved holiday. Just like us, they are there to please their tenants and we are convinced that with their unique home and their tremendous hospitality they will succeed.
